The signing of a MoU between the International Union of Marine Insurance and the Hong Kong Maritime Port Development Board

The Hong Kong Federation of Insurers (HKFI) today (18 November 2025) welcomes the signing of the MoU between the International Union of Marine Insurance (IUMI) and the Hong Kong Maritime Port Development Board (HKMPDB).

This collaboration, rooted in a shared commitment to enhancing high-quality maritime education and nurturing talent in the maritime industry, aims to promote education and training in marine insurance.

The MoU will encourage professional development, elevate the profile of the marine insurance sector, and support emerging talent in Hong Kong.

The HKFI, as IUMI’s Asian Hub, will coordinate the delivery of the envisaged collaboration under this MoU, i.e.,

• developing a multi-skilled maritime insurance workforce with a global mindset for the Hong

Kong market;

• leveraging the educational content and training resources such as the IUMI Cargo and Hull

Insurance Online Tutorials for local talent development; and

• collaborating at Hong Kong maritime events with special focus on marine insurance and related

education drive.

“The HKFI is pleased to facilitate the collaboration between these two esteemed organizations to

enhance education and talent development in the continuously evolving marine insurance sector in Hong Kong,” said Ms Selina Lau, Chief Executive of the HKFI. “With the strong backing of the

HKMPDB, the Hong Kong marine insurance sector will leverage IUMI’s extensive capacity-building resources developed over the years, effectively enabling broader marine insurance education.”
