The Hong Kong Federation of Insurers Fights against Insurance Fraud to Bring Down Premium Rate
28/2/2011
The Hong Kong Federation of Insurers (HKFI) explained at the joint meeting of Legislative Council’s Panel on Financial Affairs and Panel on Transport today (Monday, 28 February 2011) that tackling fraudulent claims can help lower the level of premiums of third-party liability insurance for public light bus and taxi.
"While reducing accident rates by promoting good driving behaviour is an effective way to reduce the risk involved," said Mr Harry Wong, Chairman of the General Insurance Council, "we are mindful of the persistent occurrence of fraudulent claims, in particular those related to back pain and psychiatric impairment following traffic accidents."
To safeguard the interests of the public including taxi and public light bus owners and operators, we are ready and keen to work with all relevant governmental departments to find effective ways to combat drink/drug driving, fraudulent claims and champerty and to secure the support of the Hospital Authority in tightening the control over the granting of prolonged sick leaves.
